Thinking Out Loud

A couple of years ago, when I was still in high school, my sisters and I used to sleep in the room on the first floor of the house. The rest of the family slept upstairs. We were fans of this radio show every 10PM on weekdays. We would listen to it until midnight, when the radio station signs off for the day. Because we were supposed to sleep early and my dad checked on us every 30 minutes or so, we would huddle on the bed and listen to the radio with the volume turned really low. It was pretty hilarious!

I was reminded of those days because I heard the song Oh, Baby, I. This song was the number 1 hit that time, and would be played again and again every hour.

When my sisters and I would reminisce about those days, we laugh so much until tears fall down our face. It was one of the best times of our lives!

I love music from the ’50s and ’70s. When I was in college, my friend and I would spend hours and hours talking on the phone while listening to the oldies. It was a happy time and one where my taste in music really expanded. I was introduced to funky music, alternative, soul and acid jazz. I even had a CD of fusion music.

But the oldies are the ones which still brings me so much nostalgia. It reminds me of those times when life was simpler and problems were down to a minimum.

After those years, it was chaos.

The radio show my friend and I would listen to all those years no longer exist. Even the radio deejay who took requests for music even from the ’20s was no longer with the radio station. I miss those days. I miss the music. I miss everything about it.

What songs would you choose as part of the soundtrack of your life and why?

Most of the songs by The Carpenters and all those old songs I listened to while growing up.

My mom loved listening to the radio while doing household chores. So my siblings and I grew up listening to the songs she listened to. I love those songs. Until now, i listen to most of it. I particularly like the mellow songs. I think I also got my mom’s habit of tuning in to her favorite radio station while working. I do the same thing.

My mom is no longer with us. But the music lives on. And it will forever continue playing until the day I die.

I can work better when the music is on. I know others are like me, music stimulates our minds. It just varies depending on our individual tastes in music. Mine’s leaning toward smooth jazz and R&B. When I am working, mellow music is the best.

It’s the perfect combination for me. Music and the sound of my laptop keys. Both sounds inspires me to work even more.

What inspires you to work?

Maybe I am just really too forgiving to a fault as what my friends tell me. But I really miss Chris Brown and his music. It was regrettable what he did to Rihanna but I do think he’s been punished enough.

I wish he’d be given another chance to redeem himself. It takes two to tango. I have this tiny doubt that Rihanna’s partly to blame about what happened. Although let me reiterate that what Chris did had no excuse whatsoever. Violence is never the answer. Ever.

Still miss him, though

My sister kept telling me that I should stop listening to mellow music while working. According to her, it evokes lethargy. The truth is, I love having mellow music in the background when I work. It relaxes me and inspires me most of the time. Though my sister is quite right with her observation, especially now when the weather is cold and all I can think about is going back to bed and sleep for hours. Thus, I am changing radio stations.

On to the upbeat sounds!

Hopefully, it’ll keep me awake until I finish my to-do list for today
