Breakup of Bamboo

Bamboo Band

One of the local alternative rock bands I listen to was Bamboo. It was composed of Bamboo Mañalac, Nathan Azarcon (both formerly of the band Rivermaya), Ira Cruz, and Vic Mercado. They popularized such songs as Hallelujah, Noypi, Tatsulok, and Mr. Clay. My favorite was Much Has Been Said, though.

I wasn’t really aware Bamboo disbanded back in January of 2011. In fact, I thought the band was just in hiatus, probably making another album. My sister told me about it and she said that Bamboo, the vocalist, made another controversy by leaving the band with unsettled issues.

And then I read about it in PEP.ph an hour or so ago! Former bassist of the group, Nathan Azarcon, spoke to PEP about the breakup of Bamboo and how their vocalist made it all seem mutual but in truth, he left them high and dry. He left without so much as a notice to the group and before they knew it, he was already going solo. Ah, Bamboo! I really love you but with these issues you had first with Rivermaya, and then now with your very own Bamboo band…

Sayang.

Bamboo band could have been a really great one. With their songs that are good and not jologs at all!

Anyway, good thing we can still listen to their songs via Youtube, including their past gigs. Sayang lang talaga. They were good eh!
